This is part 3 of a 3 part a series of articles about Chairman Kubke’s letter regarding the ASC Settlement. Part 1. Part 2.
Chairman Kubke concludes his letter so:
It is our mandate as the current Board of Directors of Lutheran Church Canada Alberta British Columbia District to make sure that everything that we must do together is done in good order to resolve the problems that we share.
Does that include holding the people that caused this mess to account?
We pray for everyone involved, knowing very well that we have responsibilities to all of you, as you do to us, as laid out in our bylaws.
Some of the people that caused this have now confessed to what they have done. Will you as the District BOD now require them to make a public apology to the people who’se lives have been harmed by their actions? Will you demand they make such amends as they can to these people? How about LCC and the the Regional Pastors? Will they require the other people that weren’t party to the ASC action to confess their sin against their fellow beleivers?
Will District or LCC hold anyone to account?
At the same time, we have mutual responsibilites as children of God laid out clearly in God’s Word.
Keep in mind that “laid out clearly” includes passages like this:
‘But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler – not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
1 Corinthians 5:11-13′
and this:
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:46-49
and this:
Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to the melody of your harps I will not listen.
But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Amos 5:23-24
Continuing with Chairman Kubke’s letter:
We ask for your prayers for humility and wisdom and fortitude as we work on your behalf and trust in God’s mercy for the sake of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Would that people would remember the rest of Christ’s instruction, because it’s not all fuzzy appeals to Christ’s undeserved mercy:
“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Luke 11:42″
Appeals to the mercy of Christ needs always remeber the reason that mercy is required. You cannot ignore the words of our Lord and still expect to be covered by His undeserved mercy.

In neither the original copy of the letter nor in your backup copy nor in the copy you typed by hand does the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Church Canada Alberta British Columbia District include an iota of a smidgeon of a scintilla of a tittle of a hint that the signatories of the ASC Settlement Agreement and Undertaking have the slightest bit of sorrow, contrition or repentence for what they, individually and together as a Board, admitted they did.

Thanks for your comments regarding Kubke’s letter. I appreciate your clarification and the analogy of the car. Although we did not have investments in CEF or DIL personally, I have many friends who did and we, as members of LCC ABC District, were all affected by this scandal. I was shocked at the victim blaming throughout Kubke’s letter and typical abuser language toward the innocent, uninformed members. Yet the “leaders” expect forgiveness. As I was growing up in the Lutheran church the order of forgiveness was 1) confession, 2) repentance, 3) forgiveness. With all the modern technology it would be easy enough for those “leaders” who created this fiasco to relay those aforementioned steps but I have not seen or heard any of this. These “leaders” were elected with the expectation that they would hold the values and ethics espoused in God’s word and act with honesty and integrity. Since they did not, they cannot expect us to be more gracious than they were toward the members, especially the investors. Kubke’s letter does not stand up when compared with all the court documents I’ve read on line exposing many years of coverup.
