A Note about the LCC East Region Pastors’ & Deacons Conference

LCC Info Digest has been publicizing an upcoming East Region Pastors’ and Deacons conference which it describes so:

• EAST – May 13-15, 2019
  2019 Pastors’ & Deacons’ Conference – The 2019 spring conference will be held May 13-15 at Camp Pioneer, Angola, NY. Note: you will require a passport to cross into the United States. Presenters to be finalized. Anyone requesting time on the agenda should contact Rev. Don Schieman at revschieman@gmail.com or 519-631-4020 (church) or 519-631-4414 (h). Contact Pastor Schieman to volunteer for worship services. Conference Registration forms will be sent out by email.

In addition to your passport, Canadian residents traveling in the US for any period of time need travel insurance to cover any unexpected health-care costs(1). The Ontario gov’t only pays OHIP rates for medical services incurred out of province and they’re talking about cutting even that. If you’re in the US, do not have travel insurance, and need medical help for any reason you’re going to be paying for it out of your own pocket. Given the high cost of medical care in the US compared to the relatively low cost of travel insurance it only makes sense to spend a few dollars to get covered.

There are a number of banks and insurance companies that sell travel insurance – google “travel insurance canada” to find a vendor that works for you.

Note 1: I’ve been told that the same applies to inter-provincial travel – if an Ontario resident needs medical treatment in BC, Ontario will pay their rate schedule for the service. If BC charges more for the same service the patient will have to make up the difference.
