Ok, confession time. A while ago I said I’d make every Friday “Fun Friday” – but there’s so much good positive inspirational stuff out that I’ve made an executive decision to be fun or inspirational as I see fit. 🙂
Here’s an inspiring dramatization of Martin Luther’s appearance at the Diet of Worms where he was told to recant his writings and refuses to back down to the illegitimate demands of the church authorities:
His famous lines “…here I stand, I can do no other” has some controversy behind them and whether or not Luther actually said these things. CPH has a blog post on the question and concludes:
Ultimately, it really does not make too much difference if he actually said those words or not. Clearly, he refused to recant of what he had been teaching: that we are saved by God, by grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Christ alone, something that the Roman Church had thoroughly obscured and contradicted.
And so with Luther, we, too, can and should say, “Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. God help me. Amen.”
No matter the controversy or the difficulty we are faced by – God stands with those who have faith and take refuge in Him. It may be a bumpy ride, it may not be what you hoped or dreamed for, it may come at a high cost, but not matter what He is faithful and true no matter how things seem to be.
